چکیده

The emergence of streaming multimedia players provides users with low latency audio and video content over the Internet. Providing high-quality, best e ort, real-time multimedia content requires adaptive delivery schemes that fairly share the available network bandwidth with reliable data protocols. Real-time multimedia tra c must avoid halting TCP-based HTTP tra c! This paper proposes a new ow and congestion control scheme, SCP (Streaming Control Protocol), for realtime streaming of continuous multimedia data across the Internet. The design of SCP arose from our long-time experience in building and using an adaptive real-time streaming video player. SCP addresses two issues associated with real-time streaming. First, it uses a congestion control policy that allows it to fairly share network bandwidth with both TCP and other SCP streams. Second, it improves smoothness in streaming and ensures low, predictable latency. This distinguishes it from TCP's jittery steady-state congestion avoidance policy that is based on linear growth and one-half rate reduction. In this paper, we present a description and analysis of SCP, and an evaluation using actual Internet-based experiments.

A new feedback streaming media congestion control algorithm

With the rapid development of Internet, streaming media applications are rapidly emerging. Network based on IP has become a streaming media distribution and transmission of the main platform. Streaming media transmission needs a certain quality of service QoS requirement. Nowadays, two main agreements on the transport layer are: TCP and UDP. TCP is the main transport protocol on the Internet, i...

Evaluating the Impact of Emerging Streaming Media Applications on TCP/IP Performance

Emerging streaming media applications in the Internet primarily use UDP transport. The difficulty with supporting this type of traffic on the Internet is that they not only generate large volumes of traffic, but they are also not as responsive to network congestion as TCP-based applications. As a result, streaming media UDP traffic can cause two major problems in the Internet: congestion collap...

A Survey on Multimedia Streaming Congestion Control Mechanisms

The real time delivery of multimedia content (Multimedia streaming) becomes a prominent field with the development of different networking technology and multimedia technology. Most of the applications such as video conferencing, visual telephone etc. need multimedia transmission techniques that send multimedia data from one end to another with enhanced efficiency, robustness and security. Mult...

Network Working Group Tcp-friendly Multicast Congestion Control (tfmcc): Protocol Specification

This document specifies TCP-Friendly Multicast Congestion Control (TFMCC). TFMCC is a congestion control mechanism for multicast transmissions in a best-effort Internet environment. It is a single-rate congestion control scheme, where the sending rate is adapted to the receiver experiencing the worst network conditions. TFMCC is reasonably fair when competing for bandwidth with TCP flows and ha...

REIHE INFORMATIK 2 / 2001 A Survey on TCP - Friendly Congestion

New trends in communication, in particular the deployment of multicast and real-time audio/video streaming applications, are likely to increase the percentage of non-TCP traffic in the Internet. These applications rarely perform congestion control in a TCP-friendly manner, i.e., they do not share the available bandwidth fairly with applications built on TCP, such as web browsers, FTPor email-cl...
